Guy Ritchie No Longer Attached To 'Lobo'

By Brian Kronner on 01.28.2010

Producer Joel Silver told the LA Times that Guy Ritchie is no longer attached to direct Warner Bros. Pictures’ adaptation of Lobo, because the studio is moving forward with Sherlock Holmes 2.

"I don’t think he’s going to do it now, the studio wants us and Guy to focus on making another
‘Sherlock Holmes.’ So I think we’re going to be doing that. But we’re seeing what happens with this. Everybody is analyzing everything. It’s all kind of happening right now as we talk."

Asked if that means Lobo will be postponed until Ritchie is free, Silver said he thinks they will more likely go with a different director.

Ritchie, while SHERLOCK HOLMES was ok, really hasn’t done a good movie since SNATCH…a decade ago. Anyway this all makes sense as Downey already dropped out of COWBOYS AND ALIENS to play the great Detective again. So who should direct?

lobo movie

If it were up to me, to replace Ritchie, I’d be all over my boy Jon Cassar. “Who?” You might ask. Well Jon Cassar has Directed 59 episodes of 24. Including the one in Season 4 when Jack rescues Heller and Audrey, killing 17 terrorists in the process. He has proven he can direct action and we could use some fresh blood. And while Ritchie has wasted the last decade with
garbage (Madonna), my boy Cassar has been directing Jack Bauer though feats of BADASS-NESS since 2001.

Damn you Cassar!! Why are you so awesome?!?!

Not biting on my TV Director? Fine, how about Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor? They are the guys behind the CRANK movies and GAMER. Even if you aren’t a fan of the CRANK movies, you gotta admit to some pretty good action sequences. Also, they already have ties with DC as they are the guys who just did JONAH HEX.

So, thoughts, suggestions?

He'll probably do the Justice League movie (if it comes out the next decade) and it will be just like Snatch but with kryptonite as the diamond and Lex Luthor as Dennis Farina's character.

How about David Fincher for LOBO?

I like Rock N' Rolla and Sherlock Holmes a lot. Holmes could have had a tighter ending to it, but i still had fun watching it. I pretty much LOATHE everything on the TV box these days, besides BSG and South Park, which has a great and funny parody episode for the show '24'. but can honestly say i've only seen oneor two episodes and it didnt do anything for me.

DAVID FINCHER is superior to GUY RITCHIE in every way. Also, I'll take the worst season of 24 over SHERLOCK HOLMES. I didn't like the changes he made to Holmes...

What?!!? I'll give you Seasons 5 and 6 are weak, but 4 might've been better than 1.

I loved Holmes. I believe Fincher is busy with his new "Heavy Metal" movie. Animated boob fest. I think Robert Rodriguez is the man for Lobo.

Season one of 24 WAS THE SHIT!

... the rest of the seasons are plain shit.

@Fisticufflinks: Funny you say that about Heavy Metal...I'm actually working on the CG for the Heavy Metal film right now. Blur Studios (the studio i work for), and Tim Miller (owner of Blur) is headlining as director along with Fincher, Cameron and Zack Snyder. We've already started development on it, and it looks fucking great! Going to be 8 films in all.

My hope is that Lobo will be terminally delayed and die in commitee. That way the studio will spend money on some other character, ANY character. I know many people really like Lobo but I can not stand this character. I won't even read a book that his him on the cover. He annoys me that much. You guys go see the movie and tell me all about it.

yagura I'm in full agreement with you actually. I liked one story arc with him ... but he just seems totally out of place when he pops up in other comics or animated series'. Let the project die. The End. I was mildy interested only because of Guy Ritchie. Now that he has new plans with Holmes ... give characters that deserve films like: Flash, Green Arrow, even Aquaman films.

If they did an Aquaman movie based on his personality from THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD I'd camp out to see it.

I dig Lobo! BUT...I don't think a movie would translate too well...he's too much of a violent asshole to appeal to the masses that don't know him...fuck it...Hollywood is suckin every comic cock waitin to strike gold...I mean they already made Howard the Duck years ago and they tried to make him cute n cuddly...bleh...

I hear that if the Lobo flick is made they wanna try and keep it PG13...so...its like old school cable porn...nothing is really seen, and seeing how Lobo dispenses his unique style of justice...that CANNOT be achieved within a PG13 system...I know there a sect of folks such as yourself that enjoys a mega violent flick and that's cool, so do I...but its like Watchmen all over again...peeps not familiar with the content will take their kids to see a "superhero" flick not knowing what's about to ha
