Marvel Screwed Itself and Favreau Too

By Jamel Ingram on 08.09.2010

The basic motif of this once fairy tale union turned bad is money. Mr. Jon Favreau made Iron Man a masterpiece. In effect, interest was jumpstarted back into Marvel’s properties almost how The Dark Knight did for D.C. Everyone forgot the mistake of Spider-Man 3 and hope seemed promising for more Marvel masterpieces like Favreau’s Iron Man. Though, as time drew near for the development of Iron Man 2 Favreau wanted more money. Marvel said no, at first, but gave in later. However as a sly balancing of power Marvel decided to decrease Favreau’s control over the Iron Man 2 storyline, and decided to have the story focus on the Avengers angle more so than Tony himself. This is why Iron Man 2 sucked, because of Marvel – enough said.

Thank you Marvel for the nice screw job…on yourself. Good luck with Iron Man 3 if Favreau even decides to do business with you again. Oh, yeah, I hope 2012’s Avengers goes well (Joss Whedon, you’re cool) because I guarantee Favreau would probably give that movie 100 times more badassness (editorial leeway) than Whedon could (again Whedon I love you).

Pissed Off,

Iron Man is far from a "masterpiece". it was fun but had it's problems. i didnt even see IM2 as it was completely up it's own asshole before it was even released. and i'm glad i didnt, as i knew it wasnt going to transcend from the first. Favreau isn't all that bad ass either.

Iron man 2 was actually pretty cool I thought. It sucks when outside sources or people with money as their only interest tarnish what could have been something great but on the hole I enjoyed both Iron Man movies, action pact and as great as the Dark Knight was it's nice to go to the cinema, switch of and just be entertained.

that Iron Man anime film looks far superior to Favreau's Man of Iron.

Wow this guy can judge a movie based on previews of the movie. The studios can just send you a 30 second clip and you can do a full review on the movie or cartoon.

and you don't jejemonster? everyone judges a film based on a trailer before it has been released. that is why they make them, am i wrong? and i am judging IM2 based off of what i saw from the first movie, and that "up its own asshole" trailer they put out. i'm not saying its right to do that for every film and there trailers, but for a shallow movie like Iron Man 1&2, it's pretty feasible.

Iron man 2 was a solid fun film but i wouldn't call it a masterpiece, also i'm not seeing how IM2 was such a terrible film, sub par to the first but not as bad as your making it out. Did i miss the part in IM2 where it "focused on the Avengers"

yeah, the whole movie. iron man was OK, as far as superhero movies go it was great, as far as movies go it was run of the mill, iron man 2 was full of silliness. I MEAN like so much silliness that you couldn't even get into it. plus the hype, the hype killed it. DAMN YOU HYPE.

Actually Deathdealer, Bubaroni is dead on. It wasn't Marvel, it was the hype that essentially gave Favereu a free pass, and now that he's blown it, he's still getting one. Every article on this site had everyone talking about how awesome this movie would be, so in the end Favereau and company didn't have to put forth any effort to make a good product; because every movie going fan had already convinced themselves that it was a good product.

This is another classic example of placing the creator before his work: John Favereau directed a shitty movie, but he is not being held accountable. And Iron Man 2 wasn't shitty because of the Avengers tie-ins, it sucked because the actors just goofed off and played themselves instead of their characters.

This very article embodies why Iron Man 2 sucked and The Avengers movie will suck. Favereau was given a free pass and now Joss Whedon is getting one. Just because you enjoy a creator doesn't mean their next end product will automatically be good. If The Avengers sucks, this time around, don't let Joss Whedon use his retarded "The sun was in my eyes" excuses and finally hold him accountable for making shitty products. And don't let Favereau make the same excuses for making Iron Man 2 a long Entourage episode.

@ Toni: i wasnt arguing that at all. i agree with you and Bubaroni. i still think the anime version is going to be better than the Favereu movies. and clearly Bubaroni "The Inbred" had words to say about that.
