10 Best Deadpool Moments

By Jordan Gonzales on 05.28.2009

Deadpool is a character that is just as likely to break into song, cut your head off, make fun of your hair, or a combination of all three. His unique blend of insanity, humor, and violence has provided some of the most entertaining moments in Marvel history. I would be remiss if I did not point out some of the highlights in his career. Without further ado, here are the 10 best moments of Deadpool being Deadpool.

10. Bob, Agent of Hydra (First appeared in Cable/Deadpool #38)

I have never been a huge fan of Deadpool’s previous sidekick, Weasel. When Bob came around I was glad to let him take the place of Deadpool’s slap around guy. I can’t really choose a single Bob moment, just his all around cowardliness and ineptitude compliment Deadpool’s attitude perfectly, and make Deadpool that much funnier. While Deadpool is the one looking for action and insanity, Bob does his best to stay out of the way and live to see his next henchmen paycheck from Hydra.

9. The Chicken Head (Deadpool #29)

What is the normal reaction to having your lady friend get kidnapped by zombies and then having the leader of the zombies kick the crap out of you? Well if you’re Deadpool, the appropriate response is to laugh at the leader because he is dressed like a chicken. Black Talon’s outfit sends Deadpool into fits of laughter and name calling, even getting Black Talon’s zombie henchmen to giggle at his expense. I think it can be considered a moral victory when Deadpool utters the phrase: “The chicken said peep!”

8. Liver Spots Everywhere (Deadpool #0)

In this issue Deadpool is matched up against clones of pretty much every major Marvel character. Who is it that really rattles his cage? Could it be clone Hulk or clone Thor? Maybe clone Captain America put the fear of God into Deadpool. No, it was in fact Aunt May and Uncle Ben of Spider-Man fame. A very naked Aunt May and Uncle Ben at that. Deadpool’s anger at the sight of nude wrinkly bodies is unmatched, and he goes on to save the day. On the plus side, Deadpool did get a houseful of bikini clad Gwen Stacy clones after the fight. No complaints about that.

7. Hot Salty Nuts (Deadpool #68)

deadpool #68

Here we have a perfect look at how Deadpool’s mind works. He has just been warned about Black Swan by Taskmaster. Taskmaster tells Deadpool about the serious beat downs Black Swan has dished out; reciting stories that would make Hulk cringe. Deadpool responds with the love story of peanuts, kept apart by their shells. Nothing fazes Deadpool; he’s in a world of his own. That and the line “Let’s dance, you hot salty nut!” cracks me up every time I read it.

6. Mini-Rhino (Deadpool #66-67)

deadpool #66

The Rhino has always been one of the bigger stronger characters in the Marvel universe; at least he was before he squared off against Deadpool. It looked like Rhino had the advantage at first, Deadpool’s aim was lacking. Then in a moment of insanity/genius, Deadpool had a great idea. If he wasn’t hitting what he aimed at, he should just aim at himself! Thus he managed to spray Rhino with Pym Particles and shrink the Rhino down to fun-size. Things didn’t stop there, once Deadpool caught Mini-Rhino, he fashioned a keychain out of him and carried him around. I can’t think of a more humiliating way to be beaten. The worse part? Deadpool ends up flushing Mini-Rhino down the toilet.

5. Right in the Jewels (Deadpool #25)

We’ve all heard of the game Rochambeau. Luckily for the world Captain America hadn’t. A mind controlled Captain America tells Deadpool that it will be better for the world to be taken over so everyone can live peacefully and without violence. Deadpool disagrees and proposes the game of Rochambeau to settle their differences. Of course Deadpool goes first, so he can show Cap how the game is played. Like most games of Rochambeau, it is over after the first kick. Who could’ve guessed the world would be saved by kicking Captain America straight in the balls? Funny how these things work out with Deadpool.

4. Bea Arthur and France (Cable/Deadpool #1)

cable deadpool #01

I loved all the references throughout Deadpool’s history to his love for Golden Girls actress Bea Arthur. What better way to introduce Deadpool in a new series than through that? When the TV asks who the sexiest woman in the world is Deadpool responds emphatically “Bea Arthur!” Then Deadpool gets hired for a job over the telephone (of course he had to put his mask on first when he found out the call was business related) and shows his patriotic side by refusing to work for a country the USA is at war with. He is then reminded that the USA is not fighting France at the moment. Oh Deadpool, not keeping up with the geopolitical climate of the times.

3. Classic Deadpool (Deadpool #11)

deadpool #11

Who better to point out just how ridiculous 60’s era comics were than Deadpool? This story has Deadpool going back in time after a battle with the Great Lakes Avengers and landing right in Spider-Man #47 along with Blind Al. Deadpool wastes no time in sending Peter Parker away and using an image inducer to make himself look like Peter Parker and Blind Al look like Aunt May. Because he doesn’t want to change the timeline, Deadpool does his best to put up with the use of phrases such “rappin’ with the rubes” and “let’s go, daddy-o” without punching anyone’s face in. He cannot, however, restrain himself from making numerous comments about the atrocity that is Harry Osborn’s haircut.

2. Baby’s First Deadpool Book

baby's first deadpool book

This one-shot is just pure hilarity. It was made to look like a children’s book and features such fun activities as a paint by numbers section and a rhyme about the alphabet. Of course this is a Deadpool book we are talking about here, and the alphabet rhyme includes the deaths of many Marvel characters and the advantages of alcohol. My favorite section has to be the parody of Goofus and Gallant featuring Captain America and Deadpool. I’ll let you guess which one is Goofus and which one is Gallant. The best is when Deadpool force feeds meatloaf to vegetarians.

1. Shoryuken! (Deadpool #27)

deadpool #27

This is my all time favorite Deadpool moment. When Deadpool has a mental breakdown that’s bigger than usual, he is told that a good fight might set his head straight. Who better for Deadpool to fight than fellow Weapon X veteran Wolverine? The only problem is Wolverine is staying out of trouble and restraining his violent side while hanging out with Kitty Pryde. Deadpool does not give up easily. Kitty tries to get in Deadpool’s face about how lucky he is that Wolverine isn’t fighting him. Deadpool then asks her a simple question. “You ever play Street Fighter?” This is quickly followed up by a Shoryuken to Kitty Pryde’s face. Wolverine’s face is priceless and Deadpool just starts to dance around and sing as Wolverine pops the claws out. In the end, the fight really does clear Deadpool’s mind. All in a day’s work for the Merc with a Mouth.

Some of the honorable mentions that didn’t quite make this list include Deadpool spying on people having sex with Kid Deadpool, fighting/laughing at Batroc the Leaper, and masturbating in Agent X’s bathtub. There is pretty much nothing that Deadpool won’t do, and that’s why we love him.
