11 Superheroes That Look Like Supervillains

The comic book world is truly vast and varied, with characters of every shape, size, and color. However, when it comes to the "heroes" of the comic book world, they're typically easily identifiable. They, in some form or fashion, look like us, or how we'd like to look, anyway. Moreover, even when they're trying to strike fear into the hearts of those that oppose them or oppose the innocent, they don't tend to look more frightening than the evil that they're fighting… except for these guys. Here are 11 superheroes (or anti-heroes) that look like super villains… SPAWN
If you don't know who Spawn is by now, you've apparently been trapped under Malebolgia's huge clawed foot for the last 15 years… but just in case you don't know, here's the rundown: Al Simmons, husband to Wanda Simmons, is a decorated soldier betrayed by his boss Jason Wynn, and sent directly to the depths of hell (do not pass go, do not collect $200), where he makes a deal with the ruling demon Malebolgia to command his army of hellspawn and bring about Armageddon in exchange for returning to Earth to his wife. Of course, as we all know, deals with demons never are straightforward, and as a result it's 5 years later, his wife's now married to his best friend (with whom she's had a child, taking away Simmons' manhood to boot), and his body is buried. Simmons is now Spawn, Malebolgia's agent of destruction on Earth, fitted with a necroplasmic exo-skin that is magic based and at his command. Got all that? As a result of all this, Spawn's face is hideously deformed and is typically covered with part of the "skin" which is a menacing "mask". Spawn goes forth fighting Malebolgia, hell, the forces of heaven, and those that would destroy the innocent. HELLBOY
Hellboy knows he's ugly. You'd be ugly too if you were a demon from hell. Found at the end of World War II and dubbed Hellboy, he was raised by the US Army and the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD). Hellboy's appearance is that of a devil like creature with red skin, horns, a tail, and an enormous right forearm and hand made of red stone-like material (which is also the hand that will unleash the powers that will bring about Armageddon), and though he's a bit on the gruff and irritable side, he's relatively fond of the human race and investigates paranormal activity and fights threats to humanity. ETRIGAN THE DEMON
Etrigan, who speaks only in rhyme, existed back in Camelot times. Originally brought forth as part of a fray, a last ditch effort against Morgaine le Fay. When the effort failed and the kingdom fell, the demon Etrigan became Jason Blood via Merlin's new spell. Now a monster possessed with a soul, the demon released only in times so bold. Still his villain to this very day, is the power lustful Morgaine le Fay. Etrigan's power is vast, it's true; he's gone toe to toe with Superman, Lobo, and Wonder Woman too. Powers of hellfire, magic, and strength…hell, he's got everything but the kitchen sink. (Ok, yes, that was bad, sue me) LOBO
Lobo… The Last Czarnian. Self proclaimed (and proven) meanest, baddest bastich in the Universe. The reason he's the last of his race is because he literally killed off every other one of his people. After single handedly destroying the Czarnians, he became a bounty hunter for hire, finding those that don't want to be found by any means necessary. Lobo's so incredibly badass, even death can't touch him, as seen in the Lobo's Back 4 issue arc, in which he is killed, sent to hell, then heaven, and finally sent back to reality because the afterlife couldn't deal with him. Lobo's helped the Justice League and various heroes in recent years, as he's allegedly turned over "a new leaf", but he's still the same ol' bastich underneath. Anyone who knows Lobo's coming will warn everyone else to "Get the frag outta the way, fer Feetal's sake!" TASKMASTER
Taskmaster has the ability to mimic any physical movement he sees perfectly. Formerly a mercenary who worked to train villains and heroes alike, Taskmaster originally sought a life of crime, deeming it more lucrative. This failed, ultimately, despite attempts to work with various villains including the Red Skull. After the Superhero Civil War, Taskmaster signed on to the Registration Act and joined the Initiative, training new superheroes to work within the confines of the law. Still, he retains the exact same costume and skull face that he had as a villain, making him a less than welcome savior if he were to come to the rescue. MORBIUS
Michael Morbius, the Living Vampire, was once a biochemist who had attempted to cure himself of a rare blood disease but instead became afflicted with an infinitely worse condition that was akin to vampirism. As a result he had to ingest blood to stay alive. While searching for a more permanent cure, Morbius committed himself to only feeding on the blood of the guilty… those who would prey on the innocent and deserved their fate. Of course, being saved by a living vampire dressed like a 70's pimp in leather is a bit scary too… EVIL ERNIE
Ernest Fairchild was a young boy who had the ability to draw the future. When his father was forced to lay off many of the town's workers from the lumber yard, Ernie's simple and happy life turned horrible. His father began to drink, killed his pet rat Smiley in a fit of rage, which caused Ernie to retaliate by drawing a picture of a car crashing into a tree. Unfortunately, when the scene happened, it was his mother that was in the car, who was carrying his unborn baby brother. Ernie's brother died, and the mother became abusive, as was his father. Eventually, Ernie was placed into an institution, where he was experimented on, and found himself in the Endless Graveyard, where he met Lady Death, who promised him her eternal love if he destroyed all life on Earth. Ultimately, during one of the experiments, Lady Death destroyed the machine that was trying to alter Ernie's mind and killed him in the process. She then used her arcane energy to transform Ernest into the undead Evil Ernie, who was tasked with killing all of humanity and getting vengence against those who tried to control him. GHOST RIDER
Flaming skull for a head. Motorcycle engulfed in flames. Chains and spikes everywhere. The biker from hell sounds like he should be a truly nasty villain, but he's actually the good guy. The Spirit of Vengeance was bestowed upon stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, after making a deal with Mephisto to save his stepfather's soul. As a result of the deal going bad (as it always does when dealing with demons), Blaze became the embodiment of judgment, dealing justice to those who would prey on the innocent, human or otherwise. The truly scary thing about Ghost Rider? The movie version… KILOWOG
Huge, towering and ugly by human standards, Kilowog is proof that one shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Kilowog is the number one trainer of the Green Lantern Corps recruits. Besides being a gifted genetic scientist, he spent a great deal of time on the Corps' home planet of Oa teaching new recruits how best to handle their power rings, including a young Hal Jordan, with whom he confronted the hive mind Legion. He also single handedly saved his entire planet's population from destruction by storing their collective consciousness within the confines of his ring, and reconstituted them on another world… only to have it destroyed by Sinestro. Nearly driven mad by this turn of events, Kilowog joined Jordan on Earth and formed the GLC on Earth. JONAH HEX
Jonah Hex wasn't always a terrifyingly ugly guy. Hex was born in 1838. At the age of ten, his mother left him with his abusive alcoholic father, who sold him into slavery at the age of 13 to the Apache. At 15, Jonah saved the tribal chief's life from a puma, and is adopted as his second son. Jonah excels in the eyes of the chief, but ends up being separated from the tribe after the chief's son betrays him. 13 years later, after the death of his fiance, fighting in the Civil War, and accidentally shooting Stonewall Jackson and precipitating his death, Hex returns to his old tribe and tells the chief of his son's betrayal. During the fight, Hex's tomahawk is sabotaged and breaks, so Jonah desperately pulls a knife and kills the chief's son. As punishment, the chief presses a red hot tomahawk to the right side of his face, scarring him horribly for life. SLEEPWALKER
College student Rick Sheridan's dreams were invaded by a protector known as the Sleepwalker, who was attempting to stop his foe, Cobweb, from destroying Sheridan's sleeping mind. As a result of the intrusion, Sheridan and the Sleepwalker found themselves intertwined, and as the Sleepwalker learned more about the world of man, he found that the same crimes against the innocent were being perpetuated, just as those he'd fought to protect. As such, he and Rick worked out means to coexist, and he became a crimefighter. With all that being said, Sleepwalker's a creepy looking mofo. If you saw him show up while you were being mugged, you'd probably side with the mugger! 0 CommentsYou must be a Member to post comment Click here to Login New User? Signup |
