ABC To Update The Greatest American Hero

Barry Sonnenfeld, the producer/director who brought us adaptations of The Addams Family, Men in Black and, er, Wild Wild West, is currently working on a update of the classic series The Greatest American Hero. Well, kind of. Sonnenfeld is currently executive-producing a half-hour comedy series about "a harried mother who finds a special suit that gives her super powers" for ABC. Hmmm, sounds a little familiar to me. He will be directing the pilot from a script by George Lopez writer Laura House. What’s interesting is why ABC keeps giving Sonnenfeld shows, given that he’s had two series cancelled in two years. I’m a bit torn on this one. One on hand, this is clearly a remake of The Greatest American Hero, but without credit given. And that’s all kinds of wrong. On the other, making the lead a woman isn’t neccessarily a bad thing, look at Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica. And on paper, Ben 10 is a simple rip-off of Dial H for Hero, but the show turned out to be amazing and an original take on an existing premise. Maybe, just maybe, this will do the same. 5 Comments
