Anthony Hopkins is Odin in 'Thor' Movie!!

Well the cast for the Thor movie, slated for early 2011, is steadily growing. The hero and villain are already cast with Chris Hemsworth playing the Mighty Thor and Tom Hiddleston as the half-giant god of mischief Loki. Jane Foster, the love interest in the movie, has been given to the
awesome Natalie Portman. Star what? Padme? No, that couldn’t have been her.

With most of the pivotal roles cast, one remaining character had left everyone curious. Who would play Odin? Well thanks to ComingSoon.net, we now know.

Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Close your mouth, it’s rude. Yes, Sir Anthony Hopkins is going to be The All-Father. This movie just went from a 6 on the I-Wanna-See-It Meter to a 10. Anthony Hopkins sells movies, and with the consistent turn out at comic based movies Thor is bound to make a fair chunk of change.

Sir Hopkins (yes I call him that every time) even has a bit of Norse experience from his great portrayal of Hrothgar in the 2007 animated Beowulf film.

Who ISN’T excited now?

I have this mental image of Odin that Sir Anthony just doesn't live up to. Even his Hrothgar doesn't carry the sort of weight that I picture for Odin. He's a great actor but I am not doing the Snoopy dance over this casting choice. Of course, I don't have a better suggestion either so it may be the best of a bad situation.

I liked. I'm sure he can be Odin in his whole figure. A great actor, one of the best alive. He's a bit short, but they can fix it with CGI or something.

What happened to Brian Blessed? I thought he was cast as Odin...

The really absurd part of this is that the guy born to play Odin: Stellan Skarsgard, a 6' 4" established actor from a Norse country, is going to be in this movie. I was hoping he would be cast as the allfather, but no such luck.

I don't get why some of you don't like "the HOP!" for ODIN. He'll be really good! Put him in the Right Costume and with the right hair and beard ... the guy's gonna land this part right! I'm still dancin' my JIG!

I agree with everything yaguara said. I picture Odin as a towering figure. Not a cannibal. But I'm still down.
