Brett Ratner is an A-hole!
By Brian Kronner
on 10.20.2009
Director Brett Ratner has blasted fan who were unhappy with X3: THE LAST STAND…because he is stupid. Everyone who knew anything was skeptical when Ratner was chosen to replace Bryan Singer for the follow-up to the ultra-popular X2: X-MEN UNITED. We were skeptical because Ratner sucks. And he proved us right, but he doesn’t think so.
Ratner: "You can’t make these people happy. I’m kind of the anti-Christ to these comic book geeks. Every single person that wrote shit went to see that movie multiple times because a movie doesn’t gross $200 something million unless people go to see it more than once.”
That is right, it grossed over $200 million, but $122 of that came in the first weekend. Then, after word of mouth got around, it did only $34 million the following weekend. That’s a 72% drop. X-MEN only dropped 58% back when the general public had no idea who the X-Men were. Then X2’s drop was only 53% the second weekend. That’s 20 percentage points that Bryan Singer built up and Ratner lost. Not to mention a large percentage of X3’s opening weekend came with that Midnight showing on Thursday before people could be warned off. Myself included. Ratner: "Every single person who said, ‘I’m never seeing that movie’, they were the first ones there. What are they concerned about? It’s out of the filmmaker’s hands. A film is a collaborative effort. How’s a person sitting at home going to worry about how a movie is going
How are we going to worry? Really? Just cause we’re not collecting a paycheck doesn’t mean we’re not invested. Obviously we were more invested than you since we actually care it sucked. Ol’ Mr. Ratfink just took his check and was done with it. The hip thing to do now is to bag on the fanboys and laugh at the internet comments, but truth is no one can even debate this was as good as the first 2 movies. Ratner measures success with Box Office, ignoring what the critics and fan base think. This isn’t some personal project of yours Brett. It’s not something you can say “I’m gonna make this for me and if they don’t like it they can blow me”. Upon accepting the job you took on a responsibility to bring to life the characters we loved. You had it easy. Singer had already laid the ground work. The previous movies were well received and you have characters that were widely popular. But that was your problem, you knew no matter how shitty the movie was it would still make money because of the previous 2. You knew you didn’t have to try so you didn’t. Ok, maybe that was unfair. After all you couldn’t have had a no-care attitude when you did MONEY TALKS right? That was your first big movie, so I would assume you worked real hard right? Yeah? Well, there you have it. That movie sucked balls too, so I guess it’s not an effort thing. You’re just a no-talent hack. Hard to believe someone who directed so many Mariah Carey and Madonna videos wouldn’t have what it took to make a good movie. Weird. Ok, I’ll give you RUSH HOUR 2. That was good for a sequel. Unlike RUSH HOUR 3. Oh and here is the prize winner here, Ratner insists that he helped to revive the series and ultimately made it more popular than ever.
Ratner: "The most ridiculous statement I’ve read is - and of course I looked at the internet after the movie came out - that I buried the franchise. If I buried the franchise how the fuck did they make a Wolverine? I mean, that’s ridiculous. And they’re making three other Yes, Wolverine, maybe the most popular character in the entire Marvel Universe, got a movie because of you. If you’re movie didn’t fuck everything up, we would’ve gotten X4 instead of the 2 hours of homo-erotic behavior that was the WOLVERINE movie. In no way did Brett Ratner make X-Men more popular. Unless he just means stronger, like as in “What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.” He didn’t keep it alive, the franchise survived him. And his shittiness leaked into the WOLVERINE movie by having lowered the bar to a point Gavin Hood could trip over it and still come out ok.
Unrelated: X3 shouldn’t have been called ‘THE LAST STAND’, it should have been ‘X3: MUTANTS WHO JUMP REALLY HIGH’. Just sayin’. 28 Comments
