Bruce Willis's Other Comic Book Movie

By Zombiezeus on 04.30.2009

Look, I don’t know from "Surrogates", the comic book adaptation that is Bruce Willis’s next action movie. Sounds a little bit like Blade Runner, which, hey, I’m down for, but I haven’t heard enough good things to get me excited.

But I HAVE read "Red", the Warren Ellis action comic about a former
black-ops agent whose old bosses try to clean up loose ends by having him
killed. Naturally, it doesn’t work out in their favor. The comic is short and
sweet–a tight little brutal action story that kicks serious ass and would make
a perfect action movie (if executed well), and I can’t think of anyone better
to pull it off than Bruce Willis.

According to the Hollywood Reporter , Willis’s people have made a counteroffer for him to be in the movie (it could all still go south), but I’m pulling for the studio to accept–he’d be awesome. He’s one of the very few older action stars who still has what it takes, and even though the character in "Red" is a tad bit more of a brutal customer than
Willis tends to be (he’s more of an ‘every guy’ tough guy, after all), I can’t
think of anyone better to play it.

So fingers crossed that this works out (because if a bigger star doesn’t sign
on, chances are the movie won’t get made), and in the meantime, do yourselves a favor and go check out the original comic–you won’t be disappointed.
