Captain America Slated for June Start

By Christopher Brown on 12.28.2009

In an article discussing the upcoming film, The Wolfman, slated for a February 12 release, director Joe Johnston revealed that principal photography for The First Avenger: Captain America was slated to begin in June.

According to FANGORIA, Johnston, director of The Rocketeer and Jurassic Park III, was named to take over directing The Wolfman after Mark Romanek left the film, citing creative differences.

The Rocketeer is one of those movies that many fanboys consider a cult classic.

…And then there’s Jurassic Park III.

What do you all think about this choice? Sound off below…

Dr.K Really? While Jurassic Park III makes zero sense at all ... IT IS MY FAVORITE of the JP films by far! It's so ridiculous ... but that's what makes it so great. I LOVE the Rocketeer too ... so, I have great hope for Captain America ... now start f'n casting already. Until I start hearing who is cast, I'm not going to believe it starts filming in June. I don't mean rumors either ... I mean set in stone casting.

All I have to say is "Rediculous", The Rocketeer and JP3 were both shit movies, and Captain America should be made with the highest regard, akin to the likes of Iron Man and Thor. Get a real director or get a Captain America movie that watches like Fantastic Four.

I loved the Rocketeer and Jurassic Park 3. I'm with Fisticufflinks, looking forward to Cap's silver screen debut.

stunt work like a Die Hard film or a John Woo film. Instead we have gotten such complete crap that it doesn't deserve being called film. Everytime I think of this movie I remember the drivel that has been put out before and I get nervous. For those of you who haven't seen the previous incarnations of CA on film - don't! This crap makes even that rat-bastard Ratner's crap look good by comparison.

I have to say that I am not looking forward to this movie. It isn't that I don't like the Captain - it is that the track record for this property has been so abysmal. It shouldn't be that hard to do a film with CA. I mean it's a guy with a shield for cying out loud. It isn't like your whole special effects budget is blown just putting the SOB in the scene like The Hulk. Surely, we can spend some of that money on some good stunts, proper scripts, and reasonably skilled acting. CA should have

Not looking good for Cap... They have to take the best character in the Avengers, nay the entire Marvel Universe and line him up with a shit director. Let me guess those rumors that Will Smith will play Steve Rogers is true huh?

Guys, a couple of things. 1. Will Smith is NOT playing Cap. This rumor was killed MONTHS ago. 2. While Joe Johnston did direct JP III (which I thought was crap), and the Rocketeer (which I thought was schlocky fun), he also directed October Sky which is a fantastic piece of cinema. And Hidalgo which was entertaining if overlong. 3. What "drivel" has been put out? The people making this film are NOT responsible for 1990 flick. They are responsible for Iron Man (1 and 2), and the last
