Chris Pine Could Be The Green Lantern?

By Dark Lantern on 03.20.2009

IESB posted a story yesterday regarding casting rumors for Warner Bros.’ upcoming live-action Green Lantern, directed by Martin Campbell. WB announced Wednesday they had set up production offices and are on track to begin filming in September in Australia.

IESB claims there is word out of WB’s hallowed halls of a very short list of possible leading men to fill the shoes of dashing test pilot Hal Jordan.  WB’s top choice is Chris Pine, who is set to star this summer in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot.

Names such as “Mad Men” star John Hamm and fan favorite Nathan Fillion have also popped up, but they are reportedly looking for a man’s man under 30.  Also rumored is Terminator Salvation’s Sam Worthington, however Pine seems to be at the top of the list. Speaking of Terminator, Christian Bale plays John Connor as well as WB’s own Bruce Wayne, so maybe Pine as Kirk and Jordan is not such a stretch.

According to Latino Review, “the official offer is out to Chris Pine for the role,” however Pine has yet to accept or decline the offer.

The jury is out on whether Chris Pine can carry the charm and arrogance of Captain Kirk, as Star Trek has yet to hit theatres.  The trailers look fantastic, and WB might want to strike a deal before Pine reaches superstardom.

Hal Jordan first debuted in 1959 at the dawn of the Silver Age of comics.  A fearless test pilot, Jordan was chosen to replace a dying alien as a member of the intergalactic police force known as Green Lanterns. Each member of the GL Corps wields a power ring, which is controlled by willpower.  Jordan has been hailed as the greatest Green Lantern, and has enjoyed a renaissance over recent years thanks to Geoff Johns.  Johns is responsible for the highly successful “Green Lantern: Rebirth” and ongoing series.

Green Lantern is scheduled to hit cinemas December 17, 2010.
