Col. Hans Landa replaces Nic Cage in GREEN HORNET

By Brian Kronner on 09.16.2009

Nicolas Cage says he dropped out of THE GREEN HORNET because of “creative differences” with Seth Rogen and Michel Gondry.

Cage said he:
"wasn’t interested in just being just a straight-up bad guy who was killing people willy-nilly. The Green Hornet’ was something that I wanted to do, I think Michel Gondry is very talented and I had hoped it would work but I think Seth Rogen and Michel had a different take on the character, I had to have some humanity and to try to give it something where you could understand why the character was the way he was but I don’t think there was enough time to develop it."

Basicly Nic Cage felt he knew better than Gondry (unlikely) and when they wouldn’t re-write the script to fit his vision he quit. Fine. Go put on a bear suit and punch a woman then Nic.

So now, Cage is replaced with Christoph Waltz. Waltz played Col. Hans Landa in what I consider to be the best film of 2009 thus far, INGLORIOUS BASTERDS. He won ‘Best Actor’ at Cannes for the role, and will no doubtidly be nominated come Oscar time as well. His addition to THE GREEN HORNET cast is quite the quality upgrade in my mind. I really haven’t enjoyed a Cage movie since THE ROCK/CON AIR/FACE OFF days, though I hope that changes with the release of KICKASS.

Anywho, Waltz has been in high demand since Tarantino’s Basterds came out and crossed the $100M mark. He has been offered a lot of big movies by a lot of big directors and it seems he’s finally found success at age 52.

This makes me more excited, I’m ready for them to just film this thing already. What do you think gang, is this good or bad?

Yay Kronner, Street Sharks reference. While I'm sure some people may enjoy Cage being off the project, I want to establish that Stephen Chow, a man more talented than anyone a part of the Green Hornet movie also dropped out completely due to creative differences. So maybe Cage is right in his leaving.

Haircutbabe Why was the bear so angry? (mother issues) Literally, Mother issues... But wrongly, it's a clip from the remake of the Amazing Classic movie "Wicker Man". The remake was very sub-par. But "The Bear"(nic cage) thought he was doing the right thing and saving the little girl from being sacrificially burned to death. Not the actual case though. Don't worry, the Matriarchal Society Burn "The Bear" to death in a huge "Wicker Man".

Oh, and I have to lay this out there for everyone, I'm kinda tired of people being down on The Green Hornet just because Stephen Chow dropped out. He is a great movie maker, however, his films have a very specific style... very specific! So, if not does to his specifications he's automatically not involved. This to me, is like a spoiled child who gets everything they want. It's the Ed Norton complex. It's quite vile, really. Selfish.

If he just backed out of directing, you'd be right. But he didn't, he also had to back out of acting in it due to creative differences. Not to mention that unlike Ed Norton, Chow really hasn't done this sort of thing before. AND it's combined with another actor having to back out for similar reasons. Couldn't it just be possible this team doesn't know how to make a movie and is just getting star names to off-set that?

He stills has a very specific style (even if he isn't directing) of film that he likes to be in. So my argument still stands. And "another actor" ... you mean Nic Cage. Nuff Said. As for it's his first time doing such a thing... are you sure? I mean ... really sure? He's not a "Hollywood" guy.

Sure it's possible the team doesn't know. But why would C. Waltz sign on? I think it's a fair question.

Gondry is better than Chow. Period.

I've got serious reservations about "The Green Hornet". There's just too much bad news swirling around it for my tastes. I think Rogen is trying to do a Superhero version of "Observe and Report", which is an interesting little movie, and the fit is proving just awkward and uncomfortable and strange. At this point I think "Green Hornet" is going to turn out to be a good try that fails to hit its mark.

fitsi, what IS the "specific style" that Chow likes to be in? Because Jian guo da ye isn't anything like Shaolin Soccer. And CJ7 is nothing like Kung Fu Hustle.
