Cowboys & Aliens...3D?

By Christopher Brown on 01.07.2010

Thanks to The Daily Beast, new info has surfaced pertaining to the Cowboys & Aliens movie progress. Not only is the film now potentially filming in July, but the Jon "Iron Man 2" Favreau directed DreamWorks film may get the 3D nod, since Avatar kicked mucho box office ass with its 3D and IMAX 3D releases.

The film, based on the comic book of the same title, is exactly what it sounds like - exploring what would happen if 1800’s cowboys and Native Americans found themselves having to join forces against an alien invasion.

Avatar's 3D "kicked mucho box office ass" because of the way it was done. Relatively subtle and part of the overall vision of the way the film would look. Hopefully, this will follow suit but somehow I am doubtful.

On the subject of Avatar, didn't it release in December? Does that make it a 2009 release? If it is a 2010 movie then do the box office figures in 2009 not count?

Yes, Fist, we know. It's okay. I am sure that with counseling you'll still be able to sleep at night.

I am sure they will. With films costing millions to make I can't imagine them abandoning any potential revenue stream.

As long as they release 2-d versions of the 3-d films ... I'll be fine.

Has there ever been a 3-D only film released?

I believe quite a few ... but I know for sure that at least "My Bloody Valentine 3-D" was and I'm pretty sure you can only see Avatar in 3-D.

While we're on the subject of 3D I have been reading some of the buzz from CES about 3-D TVs. I admit I like a good 3-D movie but I don't want a 3D TV. That is too much eye-strain even for me. And buying a set of glasses for everybody who wants to watch? I don't think so. It is just way too soon to be thinking 3D TV. The tech isn't there, IMHO. Am I alone in this thought?

BluRay, HD DVD etc. So, when people were buying these tv's, everyone was scratching their heads about when they were actually going to see anything in HD. The tech hadn't caught up yet.

It's a temporary scam.

No yaguara, you're not alone and you're absolutely correct. The technology for 3d TV is not there yet. The electronics companies are just trying to bank on this whole 3d fad that has been booming lately. Much like HDTV's in the early years of the millenium. You could buy HDTV's (and they were only 720p, not full 1080P, therefore not truly HD) BUT, there wasn't really anything being released in the format of HD...
