David Goyer Talks About 'Ghost Rider 2'

on 11.05.2009
MTV’s SplashPage announced that David Goyer is not planning on rebooting the Ghost Rider franchise. This comes as a little bit of a surprise, as Mark Steven Johnson’s Ghost Rider was a complete bust. Then again, maybe it was foolish of us to expect something good from the guy who wrote and directed Daredevil. Goyer is bringing quite a bit of credibility to the Ghost Rider franchise after his work on Batman Begins, so I feel like I can trust his judgment on not rebooting the Ghost Rider franchise and starting from scratch. Since it has already established that Ghost Rider 2 will be sticking in PG-13 territory, which I’m not entirely thrilled about, perhaps it is best to save the reboot for a day when we can see an all out R rated Ghost Rider movie. Goyer also brought up that The Dark Knight did a great job of staying within a PG-13 rating, yet capturing the essence of all the characters. I find it hard to disagree with him. As far as I know, Nicolas Cage will still be playing Johnny Blaze. Ghost Rider 2 will be set 8 years in the future, and while not being a reboot, it will take the franchise in a different direction. Goyer stated that he wanted this movie to be more realistic than the first, at least as realistic as this sort of movie can be. Basically we will be seeing a darker side of Ghost Rider, although I wasn’t aware that he had a lighter side. All in all, it feels like Goyer is moving this franchise in the right direction, and chances are I will be going to see this movie when it comes out. 10 Comments
