On November 9, 2010 DC Comics will be releasing the DC Showcase of Original Shorts Collection on DVD and Blu-ray. Byway of DC’s parent company Warner Brothers, the collection will include four animated shorts and four additional bonus TV episodes handpicked by the executive producer of Superman Doomsday Bruce Timm in the single disc DVD version. The Blu-ray version will include the same content as the DVD, but it will have a digital copy of the shorts. The single disc DVD version will also include 1 hour of extra material. The Blu-ray version will include 2 ½ hours of extra material. The gem of the collection will be the first ever release of the Superman/Shazam! The Return of Black Adam of which stars the voices of Jerry O’ Connell, George Newbern, Arnold Vosloo and James Garner.

Sharing the spotlight with Superman/Shazam are the three other animated shorts The Spectre, Jonah Hex and Green Arrow. The three shorts will appear in an expanded format from their initial shorter versions on previous DC animated original movies that came out earlier this year. The three shorts headline many well known stars including the voices of hotties like Alyssa Milano, Michelle Trachtenberg and Linda Hamilton…oh yeah Malcom McDowell is among the well known stars. Though, come on the three hotties are enough for me to enjoy the shorts, but it borders a kind of Hentai obsession so let’s not go there here. Amongst the collective team that helped bring you these epic DC shorts is the aforementioned Bruce Timm of whom is the executive producer of Superman/Shazam teamed with Joaquim Dos Santos, who also directed episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Justice League, is the director and Michael Jelenic, writer of the recent Wonder Woman animated film, is the writer of the script. Steve Niles, writer of 30 Days of Night, Joe Lansdale, a world renowned author and Greg Weisman, a writer on the Young Justice series are among the all star team behind this upcoming showcase of some never before seen greatness.

Amit Desai, Warner Home Video Vice President of Family, Animation & Sports Marketing, stated that the showcase will introduce some long standing characters to some new viewers. This is of course good since it’ll help with the expansion of the public’s knowledge of the DC comic brand. I’ll enjoy my potential purchase of this collection though if this is in fact strictly an attempt at expansion of exposure I just have to ask what in the hell happened to the Justice League live action development?…..no seriously what happened?
