Death Row Records Making... Comic Books??
By Jordan Gonzales

Chances are you have heard of Death Row Records. They produced songs by some fairly well known rappers, such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Tupac. Now it seems they will be producing comics featuring those and other rappers. I for one am not looking forward to this at all. Death Row Records went bankrupt a while back and was purchased by WIDEawake Entertainment Group. In the never ending quest for more money, they have decided that since comics are becoming more popular these days, and rappers are very popular, why not combine the two? The result will surely be like the the Eminem/Punisher crossover. Terrible. As a sidebar I would like to point out that Eminem’s tough guy face on the cover of that comic makes it look like he is mentally challenged to a severe degree. About the same degree as the people behind this idea. The idea of using rappers in comics is not a bad one in itself. Many rappers lead quite chaotic and violent lives that would make for interesting reading. The problem here is that Death Row Records will most likely not be doing a thoughtful storyline. Instead it will be full of shooting and drugs and the gangsta lifestyle. I would also expect frequent use of the n-word. Combined, all these factors will make Death Row Records’ comics about as entertaining as an enema. Certain crowds will enjoy them immensely, but they’re just not for me. 4 Comments
