Die Hard: Year One

Anyone who knows me, or has at least read majority of the stuff I’ve written for Bam Kapow knows about my man-crush on John McClane. As far as I’m concerned, McClane is right up there with Clint Eastwood’s ‘Man with no Name’ and ‘Harry Callahan’. I’ve seen DIE HARD well over a hundred times and was ecstatic when Bruce Willis hinted at a 5th movie recently. So today I made a long overdue trip to the comic store and saw DIE HARD: YEAR ONE. A comic from ‘BOOM!’, about the beginning of McClane’s career. I picked up the first couple issues, and so far so good. No ridiculous plots yet. Just John McClane, rookie. I love this idea because you don’t have to go overboard with it, just simple police stories that expand on the mythology of one of my favorite characters.
Slash Film - “Every great action hero got started somewhere: Batman Began. Bond had his Casino Royale. And for John McClane, more than a decade before the first DIE HARD movie, he’s just another rookie cop, an East Coast guy working on earning his badge in New York City during 1976’s Bicentennial celebration. Too bad for John McClane, nothing’s ever that easy.”
