Dolph Lundgren Might Be in 'Conan'

By Cleric Costes on 11.10.2009

So – the upcoming Conan movie seems to be recovering from the scare of possibly having Brett Ratner direct it.  We’ve gone from the Rat to Marcus Nispel, who has directed the recent Friday the 13th remake, Pathfinder, and the surprisingly decent Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Even though that’s the sum of Nispel’s body of work – the relative mediocrity of Nispel’s films is still a HUGE step above Ratner’s penchant for destroying everything he gets his hands on at the behest of studios.  Nispel seems to be leaning towards casting unknowns in the project – which will either be good (Conan did give Schwarzenegger his start) or bad (Hello, Beastmaster!).  So I’ll say this – the upcoming Conan film has the –potential- to be above average.

You’re not going to get anything more from me than that.

However, the possibility of casting Dolph Lundgren in a major studio film does make me a little excited.  The Conan film shares a team of producers with Stallone’s upcoming Expendables (an 80’s geek wet dream) – and Lundgren recently spoke to MTV News about the possibility of being in the film.  He did caution, however, that the film is still early in the pre-production stages and nothing is set in stone yet.

“It’s too early,” Lundgren is quoted as saying, explaining that he didn’t expect to know more until “probably next year.”

It’s always good to see old action stars get back into the game – they bring a history to the genre that newer actors lack.  So here’s me with my fingers crossed that
Lundgren ends up with a role in the flick…
