Frankenstein Comic Becoming A Movie

By Zombiezeus on 04.16.2009

There's lots of indie comics out there, and a metric ton of them are horror-themed. And no, I'm not just talking about the work of Steve Niles–there's also screenwriter/actor/comic scribe Kevin Grevioux, who played 'Raze' in the "Underworld" movies. I want to make fun of him for that (because they didn't exactly float my boat), but this is what he looks like:

So, y'know. Never mind.

So this man-beast has written a few horror titles, including "ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction" and "I, Frankenstein", for DarkStorm Studios (I never heard of them either). Now it appears that both ZMD and Frankenstein are being turned into movies.

Not only that, but "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" director Patrick Tatopolous is directing "I, Frankenstein", which is a bit further along than most comics-to-movies adaptations are these days. Most of them have just been optioned to be written and they'll stay right where they are, because let's face it, there just aren't that many movies made, period, and there've been roughly 78,962 comics optioned lately. But I digress.

"I, Frankenstein" is apparently a modernization of the Frankenstein story in which ol' Frankie gets rough with other classic monsters–which I can only assume means Dracula, werewolves, and mummies (oh my). The cover of "I, Frankenstein" shows Frank carrying some guns, which means it's likely it will be action-oriented, and I say "about g-d time, already".

We've deserved a kick-ass Frankenstein-fighting-monsters movie for some time now, what with our appetites being whetted by:

And:

So will this finally be the movie to deliver? Shocktillyoudrop sat down with Grevioux to get some details. Unfortunately, we can't really tell from the interview if this is going to kick ass, but we do get treated to these concept drawings:
