Gary Oldman Announces New 'Batman' Film

By GuardianOfChaos on 07.26.2009

According to SuperHeroHype, Gary Oldman (Commissioner Gordon from the Batman films) just announced that the third Barman film will begin filming next year.  This is good news in regards to a start time.  Hopefully the production won’t take quite so long, but honestly I’m willing to wait as long as it takes to get a new film.  I really don’t think anything will top The Dark Knight, but I’m still really excited for what’s to come.  I really want a Riddler portrayed by David Tennant myself.

Sound Off B!K!: Eager for new film or should they have stopped with The Dark Knight?  What villain(s) should be in the next film?

No offense to Gary Oldman, but I really don't think he knows what the hell is going on with the movie. He was quoted as saying "I think that starts next year", which means nothing to me. Come on, even if they plan to make a disaster again and lose any sense of self respect they've gained over the last two movies, Warner would still need way more time for pre-production.

My vote is still for David Tennant as the Riddler. Hells yes. But I doubt theyre filming so soon, theres no way theyve gotten a decent script together and convinced Chris Nolan to come back after Ledgers death, he was reluctant to do number three according to the last reports.

Gary Oldman is the perfect Jim Gordon. For the third Batfilm I would like to see either Kate Beckinsale as Catwoman/Selina Kyle or Timothy Spall as the Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot. But only one villian, I'm sick of this oversaturation of more than one villian per Comic movie! Enuff is enuff! Stop it Hollywood!

I really doubt they'll use the same characters from Batman Returns. They definitely won't cast Beckinsale, she's way to pricey and it's oh so cliched to use her as the bad-ass woman.

YES. I'm glad more and more people are liking the idea of david tennant as riddler (I jumped on that bandwagon the second I had seen the fan-made poster lol) so I whole heartedly agree with that. but I have thought of a new one - Malin Ackerman as catwoman or poison ivy. we already know she looks smashing in and out of tight latex lol

IMDB reported that a few hours after Oldman said that, Bale confirmed it.

Stop fan casting hot actresses who can't act. I mean Kate Beckinsale can be good when she actually cares, but Malin Ackerman is horrible. She should stick to romantic comedies. They are going to pick plausible villians that are relevant to the story, not fan favorites. They're probably gonna go with someone like Black Mask.

Mr. Freeze. The good version. Not the Arnie version.

Bale said he's under contract, not that they were shooting. This is getting blown WAY out of proportion.

Conmaniac89 ...you need to chill out on being the message board bully and let some other people enjoy themselves and form the opinions that they like. It's not all about you and what you believe. Just saying!

I'm hardly a bully, mate. I can have an opinion on Malin Ackerman's shitty acting if I want. Does anyone actually agree that she is a good actress? I'm trying to simply state that this so called news from Gary Oldman is hardly confirmation that the movie is going to be made any time soon. I tend to have a problem when people keep relaying their ideal casting for the new movie. I for one would like to see a villain not done before instead of the same one's done over and over. There are more rogue

Conmaniac89's right, are you people idiots? There has been no proof, it's just one person who is probably the last to know when the movie is going into production, he's just trying to get fans excited. When the studio releases a statement thats when it's real

Alright kids, let's just settle down now. No, Oldman's annoucement doesn't make it official, but there is no reason we can't hope for it to be so. As far as ideal casting, that's part of the fun. Personally I'd love to see Kristen Bell, who CAN act, would be an awesome Harley Quinn. Or Hoffman as Penguin. Riddler is played out. Freeze done right could be cool or maybe a creepy Hatter...

I doubt they'll use Harley Quinn now, pretty pointless (but Kristin Bell would be good). They really need to get villains that haven't been seen before by the mainstream. Black Mask, Hush, Hugo Strange(come on, about time), Calendar Man, Deadshot, etc.

Catwoman and Tennant as Riddler are a MUST.

Conmaniac89 Why wouldn't they use one of the characters from Batman Returns? They used The Joker and Two-Face. Both of those characters were in previous movies. Doesn't seem that there was any negative backlash from that. I mean, that movie made more money than the Government makes. And as for using Black Mask, Hush, Hugo Strange, Calendar Man, Deadshot... I think they are smarter than using second rate villians that the general public are unaware of. Less box office bucks!

The third movie will be a TRIPLE THREAT from the likes of the Penguin, Killer Moth and Calendar Girl

eddiephlash hehehe... that's good. Honestly though, I would love for the movie to be called something like, "The Dark Detective" or something with the word Detective in the title. Or maybe Nights of Gotham or Knight of Gotham... maybe? eh, but what do I know... just my two cents.

Conmaniac89: First, not pointless to use Harley, she could be avenging Mr. J who is locked away, and doesn't even need t be the main villian, do what they did with Scarecrow in Dark Knight. Second - Hush is fucking stupid. His intro storyline in the comics was awesome, but he is fucking weak. Of the guys you mentioned only Black Mask would I consider...

I vote they kick it old school and call it something like "The Masked Manhunter"

He is one of Batman's ultimate villains, especially now. I mean he got plastic surgery to look exactly like Bruce and stole Catwoman's heart just to get to him. Also, his back story is crazy. Sabotaging his own father's car and smothering his mother. Harley Quinn could work and I love the character, but it'll just draw back to the Joker. This new installment will most likely try to be it's own entity. The only villain I can see returning is Scarecrow because he never got to really be the Scarecr

Fisticufflinks, do you read Batman? Black Mask, Hush, Deadshot and Hugo Strange are all really big Bat-villains. The reason they had to use Two-Face and Joker was because they are absolutely the most essential adversaries along with Ra's. Besides, the Riddler, Peguin, and Poison Ivy are all non-bankable characters in Warner's eye by being in the not-so-successful Batman movies. And I don't know about you, but I don't know any hardcore Riddler etc. fans there are. As for Hush, what's not to like?

Hush - Tommy Elliot's origin is fucking stupid. The original HUSH storyline was awesome UNTIL the reveal at the end. His reasoning ruined the whole thing for me. Black Mask is cool, or I could even deal with a creepy psycho version of the Hatter, but I don't like Hush.

Then why not take advantage of unknowns and make a great movie that doesn't depend on villains, but Batman.

Oh, I'd be down for it, no doubt or disagreement with you there. The thing is that Hollywood is in it for the MONEY! People (in general) want villians they recognize. They don't want to see Batman fighting people they don't know. Personally, I would love to see a movie where Batman only took down a bunch of thugs, zero super villians. But that wouldn't happen because the Movie wouldn't be very much of a financial success. That's why.

Conmaniac89 Yes, I do read Batman... I have a Dark Knight Strikes Again! (Frank Miller Batman with crypto-gloves) tattoo on my leg... (and it's huge!)He's my favourite character, HANDS DOWN! That's why I can say with something like, "They are smarter than using second rate villians that THE GENERAL PUBLIC are unaware of." I'm not saying that those are poor villians. I'm saying that The GENERAL PUBLIC wouldn't necessarily know about them.

And since we haven't introduced Catwoman, and Hush's best story revolve around playing the other villians, I don't see bringing him in yet. I'd be fine skipping the Riddler, but the Penguin could be cool if they do him how is is now, a crime boss.

Hollywood doesn't always require marquee villains, to the non-comics community, Ra's AL Ghul and Scarecrow are pretty obscure and "Batman Begins" made a shit ton of money. The thing I'm tired of hearing are Riddler rumors, he's just a Joker light (no need to mention Hush, It's awesome, but only one cool moment) and the movie going public will see him as that, a substitute in lieu of Mr. Ledger. They just ought to go "Dark VIctory" status and write Two-Face back in and do the story of the freaks t

.... freaks taking Gotham from the mob. And since both Bale and Nolan (who will come back, Warner isn't stupid like Fox and will pay him whatever he wants) refuse to put Robin in the movies, use Catwoman in a similar fashion, no as a sidekick, but someone who pulls Bruce away from the edge. This is cliche, but give me Angelina Jolie as Catwoman, since she is the most sexual actpr working today, she's the only one who could make it work, unless someone else has any suggestions:

Maxie Zeus Perhaps? What better way to jump the shark than a bullshit villain in a toga. My money's on Dent, without the Joker, which was the plan for the trilogy, Two-Face using several lesser rogues to kill the rest of the mob would make for an awesome experience.

Anyone ever read Batman: Jekyll & Hyde? The end of TDK is a mirror of the end of that book. (slightly altered, yes... but a pretty good mirror). At the end though Harvey/Two-Face gets back up from the fall and get's taken in. So, I think that it's pretty likely that this is what they'll do as well. I'm sick of the Riddler too. Never cared for him really. I don't like Jolie... I still say Kate Beckinsale, I don't care how cliche that is.

What about Clayface or Killer Croc. I really loved Clayface's story. Most of the villains have been covered by the movies thus far so it dwindles a lot of the better choices. We could always have the Ventriloquist guy or Clock King.

I love DARK VICTORY and they already started with the Freaks taking over last movie. I don't like Jolie, but admit she would make a good Catwoman. I'm all for bringing Harvey back, them having covered up his survival would've made perfect sense in DARK KNIGHT.

GuardianOfChaos Killer Croc is my favourite BatRogue... having said that, I don't think Nolan would allow him or Clayface to fit into the world he's created. Maybe Clayface, but it would just be to the extent that he is awesome at changing his face into anything and not the whole oozing body Clayface that we are used too. I suppose Killer Croc in that realm too. Maybe a guy that has rough skin due to Genetic birth problems, but not really green, more of a greyish tone might fit in.

That's why Black Mask is more of a believable character...Croc would be bad-ass though. If they did Clayface it would look a lot like Sandman, which sucked in pretty much every way, so why relive that?...They should have Batman face off againt Darkman.

I still think they could mold Hush into something to fit their plot. He's pretty unique compared to other villains, no one's ever been against Bruce. Black Mask and Deadshot are really the most plausible villains as Nolan said he wants to stay away from the metahuman aspect.

Hush is great, especially NOW. He is the only villian who wants Bruce dead not Batman.

Black Mask has my vote too, together with Bane. It is high time that he is taken seriously and not just considered to be a brute without a brain. Catwoman would be ok, but only if she is an ally an not a villain (that one is getting old). Also I wouldn't mind Rha's al Ghul to return.

Just as long as they don't include any replacement Joker I will be ok with it!
