Ghostbusters 3 To Start Filming This Winter
By Skott Stotland

It really looks like it might actually be happening, and it only took them 20 years to do it. Dan Aykroyd told The LA Times Hero Complex that Ghostbusters 3 “could be in production by winter." He also dropped a ton of other news as well. Sigourney Weaver is finally on board, which is awesome since as recently as a month ago she was saying in interviews that she wasn’t going to do it. Her lack of interest in the franchise was the reason they created Alyssa Milano’s (more on her shortly) character for the upcoming video game. They officially have all four Ghostbusters back, yes, even Bill Murray. And while we might blame the wait on Mr. I’d-rather-make-Garfield-A-Tale-of-Two-Kitties-than-Ghostbusters-3, Aykroyd doesn’t. “I don’t put not making the third movie on Billy. We can’t do that. I’ve been very busy. Harold’s been busy, Ivan’s been busy. And a third script really didn’t coalesce properly. And Billy, you can’t blame an artist for not wanting to do the same thing again. He did two of them, for God’s sake. Although I’m the biggest cheerleader as the originator of the concept but I’ve never begrudged Billy not doing a third movie. I never said he held it up or that he refused. Hey, listen, he’s an artist. You can’t force somebody into it.” I’m sure anyone who’s been following the very long development of this movie knows its being written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who wrote the upcoming Jack Black/Micheal Cera comedy Year One and…um…some episodes of The Office. Well, the trailers look kinda funny and when The Office is good it’s really good and Egon himself, Harold Ramis handpicked them to write this so I have faith (more on her shortly). As for who will be directing this latest installment, that’s a bit more up in the air. Aykroyd would love to see Ivan Reitman return but thinks he’s “too busy as a mega-producer” to do it. His next choice would be Ramis, going so far as to say “it would be wonderful to see him do it.” Aykroyd says he would “like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let’s revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let’s pass it on to a new generation.” He’s apparantly thinking a five member team with a few women this time. When pressed for some names, he gave Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku - “I think they’re amazing.” Unfortunately, he does take the time to warn us that “at any second everything could blow up.” So I guess we shouldn’t get our hopes up too high, just in case. But, man, how hard is it going to be for any of us to keep from strutting down the street today like that ghost from the opening of the cartoon? And imagine how much harder it’s going to be the day shooting actually begins. 0 CommentsYou must be a Member to post comment Click here to Login New User? Signup |
