Rodriguez's “Machete” Casting Rumors

When GRINDHOUSE came out the weekend of my birthday a few years ago, I dragged about 15 people to see it. We got there super early to ensure good seats. Talk about unnecessary, the theater was maybe a quarter full. Most of the girls, outside of my little sister, didn’t like the movie. What was universal though, everyone loved the fake trailers attached. Personally THANKSGIVING was my favorite of them, but MACHETE was a close 2nd.

Well now, 2 plus years later, Rodriguez is finally getting the ball rolling on making that trailer into a full length movie. In the trailer we saw Cheech Marin and Jeff Fahey, no word if they will return for the movie though.

What we are hearing now though, in addition to Danny Trejo in the title role, the following 3 actors have agreed to roles.

Michelle Rodriguez is said to be playing "Luz" and Judd Apatow regular Jonah Hill will play "Julio". These are both actors we know, both higher rate then what we would’ve originally gotten with a DVD direct release.

The big one however is one of the greatest actors to ever live, Robert DeNiro.

Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis are teaming up to begin filming Machete on July 29th. They are co-directors.

Obviously, keep this sucker filed under rumor until confirmed.

And SCREEN RANT is also rumoring a possible Steven Seagal sighting as well. Seeing as he just quit his part in THE EXPENDABLES, this could help shed some light on his decision to leave that movie.

So nothing is official yet, but this could be interesting. And if you can return Fahey, who was excellent in Planet Terror, and Cheech, that would make one intriguing cast.
