Superman Not Heading Into Theatres Anytime Soon

By Skott Stotland on 09.17.2009

MTV caught up with Diane Nelson, the new head of DC Entertainment, and discussed the effects of the recent restructuring and how this affected the DC movie slate. The conversation, quite expectedly, turned to Superman.

When asked if the shake-up (and the recent court decision) meant a Superman movie would be more likely to happen now, Nelson replied that "We actually don’t have any current plans for Superman."

This seems to have taken MTV’s writer aback, as Nelson was quick to not only repeat her previous statement, but also defend the character and his importance to the company. "We’ve obviously done a lot of great things behind the property in our history," she said. "And it’s a key part of the family, but we don’t have current plans behind Superman."

Weird, right? Not doing anything with a flagship character that you’re going to be financially penalized for not making a movie with doesn’t seem logical.

On the other hand, Nelson did give a pretty great quote regarding Ryan Reynolds, and if he can play both Hal Jordan and Deadpool, "Ryan Reynolds can be anything he wants to be."

As weird as it may be, it's most likely an intelligent move on their part. I mean rebooting it now would just be awkward, being as they just released that shitty movie that came out in 2006. We should have a few years in attempt to forget about what Singer did. So i say, "good call!" But i do eagerly await.

I personally didn't dislike "Superman Returns" as much as most people and I can't wait for a "reboot" of Supes. I would like to see more action and a different bad guy than Lex Luthor.

I agree that Superman Returns was not a terrible movie and, in fact, I liked it the first time I saw the film with Christopher Reeve back in the day. Dear lord, can't they do something with Lex Luthor beyond some dumb-@$$ land swindle? I don't recall Lex being some sort of real estate psycho in the comics. Did I miss that part? Superman doesn't have a strong a Rogue's Gallery as Batman (my opinion - yours may vary) but at the very least there is more than just Lex Luthor worth putting on fil

I liked the SR movie. I guess I'm in the minority there.
