Superman Returns...Returns?

There are strong rumors about a Superman Returns Sequel. Director Bryan Singer confirms that work has begun, but has not confirmed reports that Transformers' Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman would be writing the script. According to the director, Superman Returns was intentionally a romantic and nostalgic film, but intends to address those issues with "…an opportunity to up the threat levels…Clearly there’ll be a body count [laughs]. From frame one, it will be unrelenting terror! All those teenage girls who found the movie and mooned over James Marsden or Brandon? Well, I’m going to wake them up!”

We sure hope so. Granted, Superman Returns did make $400 million dollars, which is nothing to sneeze at, but how successful is a movie if every walks out of the theater thinking the same thing: "What the hell was that???"

Personally, Superman Returns gave me mixed feelings of nostalgia and nausea…It was great seeing the original style opening, and the update on the suit wasn't bad…the few bits of action they did include were pretty well done (…and maybe I'm just a little twisted, but part of me thought it was hilarious that Superman got shanked with Kryptonite…); however, any movie that makes the All-American Boy Scout out to be a deadbeat dad and a super stalker makes me shudder a bit. And Lois Lane was POORLY cast (I'm sure I'll get flack for that too, but whatever…Lois is supposed to be the love of the most powerful being on the planet, and she looks like THAT?).

I'm just saying, Mr. Singer, I hope you're paying attention to the fans, at least a bit. Oh, and lose the kid…please…send him to boarding school…in space…until he's 18. Then you might have a shot at bringing back the good ol' red and blue the way he should be.
