Syfy's 'Swamp Shark' Challenges 'Sharktopus' to a Duel of Awesome

This campy yet delicious killer shark flick will be hot on the heels of Sharktopus and Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus.
In a small Louisiana town on the Atchafalaya Basin, a local drunk is found mangled to bits, his death blamed on the Broussard family’s pack of "escaped" alligators. But Rachel Broussard claims to have ssen the fin of a shark in the swamps. she begins the hunt to find the creature to clear her name and prevent the deaths of hundreds set to fill the river for gator Fest. But can she stop the "Swamp Shark" in time for Gator Fest? Directed by Asylum alumni Griff Furst, Swamp Shark seems to be the weaker southern counterpart of the highly anticipated and more imaginative monster shark, Sharktopus. Based on the trailers alone I’d have to side with Mr. Roberts and the hybrid shark/octopus on this one. While any film featuring chicks in bikinis with southern accents, swamp monsters and an annual event called ‘Gator Fest’ is grade-A in my book, I feel as though I’ve seen this before. Perhaps in the highly entertaining Frankenfish, or the TBS original, Red Water. However the cards have yet to be dealt and I’m looking forward to an gore-iffic year of scaley killer fish. Ahem, excuse me, Sharks. Starring Kristy Swanson and Robert Davi, Swamp Shark will be swimming to a theater near you Summer 2011. 1 Comments
