Anxious. Thats the word sums up how I feel any time I hear about a comic-to-film adaptation. Anxious is how I feel towards the upcoming Thor movie. I’ve been a fan of the Thunder God for a long time. Certainly not the biggest of Thor fan’s but I’ll take him over the Big Blue Boyscout any day in a grudge match.

The writing team of Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz has been put together to pen the Odinson’s first forray into film. And it sounds like the two have their hearts in the right direction. I do like they are not concerned with staying within the confines of realism. Realism is a crutch that I think is keeping most of action packed blockbusters lackluster and at best forgettable. Too often the brain trusts behind movies try to keep things grounded in reality.

For the record: FUCK reality.

I get enough reality every time I wake up. I watch movies, read comic books, and play video games to see things that CAN NOT happen. The minute the story crosses outside of the world of the mundane and ordinary I don’t care about how it could possibly happen. I just want to see it happen. Don’t insult my intelligence by trying to make me believe its a possibility. Just make it fucking incredible, show tits, roll the credits.

Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz I think may grasp this notion. If they can certainly capture the feeling and raw intensity of Thor, building up the maelstrom to the brink before finally unleashing the wrath of the heavens they may have a hit.

Though I’m not going to allow myself to get excited yet, and this next bit is what is keeping me in the realm of feeling anxious. Ever hero needs a heel, and Loki was one of the originals. It seems they’ve given that position to Tom Hiddleston. Yeah, you probably asked yourself the same question "Who the fuck is Tom Hiddleston?" I did. I guess Tom’s one of the fancy lads that can deliver Shakespeare lines and not leave you with that feeling of Quint dragging his nails down the chalk board in JAWS. I don’t know much about the guy, but that’s a pretty big part, and he doesn’t quite look like Loki to me. Then again, I though Heath Ledger was a bad, bad, bad baaaaad choice for the Joker initially.
