Tobey Maguire: Birthday Attraction

By Brian Kronner on 01.12.2010

This comes from i09

Did you know that Tobey Maguire does Spider-Man appearances at kids’ parties, just for kicks? But now that his time as big-screen Spidey has ended, will this stop the star from birthday cameos and superpowered balloon-animal crafting?

Maguire admitted that he’s pulled on the bright red suit to spread joy at a few children’s birthday parties in his spare time. He also does it to stay in shape, which seems like a weak excuse. Come on admit it, you’re a sucker for the pony rides like the rest of us!

There’s a lot of time between the movies where I have to stay in shape and as strange as it may sound, I actually go to kids’ parties (to entertain) and try to stay in shape that way.

While it’s absolutely adorable that Tobey Maguire dons his spidey suit for children’s parties, we can’t help but wonder if the kiddies will be demanding a grittier Spider-Man entertainer now that his Peter Parker days are over and the studio is going with a "darker," more contemporary version of the wall-crawler for his next outing.

Adorable, yeah. I was thinking he’d have personal trainers and what not, but kids birthday parties are an acceptable way to stay in shape I guess.

ANYHOW, I have my doubts about just how much ‘darker’ this next Spiderman movie will be. I don’t like the idea of him back in High School, it’s stupid. I feel like they’re unnecessarily trying to tap a younger, more TWILIGHT focused age group. I just have a bad feeling about all this…

I'v been a long time fan of this site. been coming here every couple of days for over a year now and I finally created an account. Just had to voice my disagreement about the new Spider-man reboot. While there is less than no info on the new direction, I am hoping its a step in the right direction. Like Marvel was able to do with their Ultimate Series, I think this too will come out better than expected.

I hope your right, I really do. I loved the first 2 Spiderman movies, the 2nd one is one of the best comic movies ever, this just scares me. Raimi had passion for the product and still he would rather walk away then put up with the studio. It's sad. Thanks for chiming in though, nice to hear a new voice on here.

Maybe when the new movie comes out, Tobey will go crazy and crash the party with his spidey suit, crying for uncle Ben Raimi...

Before Spider-man hit the big screen he used to be my favorite super hero. Now I could careless. Tobey Maguire ruined it for me. I just really don't like his acting what so ever. Now that they are pushing all this new dark spider-man, it just feels like we are being set up for more heartbreak. Fuck this.

That must be damn expensive, getting Tobey as Spider-Man to show.

Grimlock, So because they fucked up the movies you don't like Spider-Man anymore? Spider-Man is the greatest. The comics are amazing and even the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon rocks. The MTV animated series was good too. you couldn't have been a very big Spidey fan in the first place if these stupid movies can ruin the character for you. Everyone is entitled I guess.

child and i was absolutely insulted by the treatment we were givin on his "origin" these movies ruined my respect for tobey as an actor because before he stepped into the tights he was a great actor now hes swill i want a great movie like the dark knight and begins not an "ok" side dish of a film like the first 2 installments because 3 well it was plain garbage they didnt cast right once in that one yes i think they need a complete revamp and if they phuck it up this time i'll burn thier studi

personally im extatic to get rid of dunst first off and defo tobey as well lets face it they were the worst casting since hasslehoff as nick fury or other travesties that i wont take the space to mention and a darker image is definitely in order cause come on people they were already aiming for the kiddies with this "franchise" and the only good casting in the whole series was for goblin and doc ock i wouldnt mind a complete reboot at all seeing as how being a fan of spidey since i was a small

Yeah I agree, especially the extended 2.1 version. FF was terrible, it felt like the movie was over before it started.
