WB Wants To Make A 'Justice League' Movie Without Batman or Superman

Recently, Warner Bros announced they green lighted a Justice League movie. Now seriously, does this announcement mean anything outside of trying to steal some spotlight from the Avengers movie? Supposedly, it’s going to be Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Green Lantern, and The Flash, with the focus being on the first three’s origins. First of all, is a Flash script even made? They will need to complete that entire film before starting with the JL. And what if that or Green Lantern is a bomb? Will that result in a nix of the JL movie? This has the potential of being a Wolverine level of disaster. Secondly, there is no Batman or Superman included in the film. This is somewhat bearable to take since there are good JL stories that don’t involve those two, but the way to do this is through casting the right heroes. Green Arrow should replace Aquaman, given his history and relationship to Hal Jordan and Barry Allen. They could also appease all the fan boys and swap Martian Manhunter for Plastic Man. Or go for a bigger concept film and expand the roster.
If they don’t mind swapping out some of the characters, one such story could be Identity Crisis. The Atom’s wife is murdered and other superhero’s families are targeted by someone with an insider knowledge of their lives. Good God this would be spectacular. You wouldn’t even need a large cast. The Atom, Elongated Man, GL, Flash, and then any other female hero. At its core, Identity Crisis is a super powered murder mystery and an identification of the risks of being a superhero. Any story from the animated Justice League or Justice League Unlimited could work. Far and away, the animated series were the best representation of the League that has ever been done. If they want to include a Wonder Woman origin story, there are plenty of Ares stories to draw from. Actually, that makes me think of something else… If there was a poll taken from a group of people, let’s say ones who buy at least one comic a year and are familiar with the animated Justice Leagues, and the poll asked what would you rather have, a live action Justice League movie, or another season of Justice League Unlimited. Would this be a like an 80/20 ratio of those wanting another season of JLU? Better yet, would people rather have another season of JLU, or another season of Batman Beyond? Simply put, Justice League Unlimited gave us Superman’s ultimate true power:
If the producers change their minds and want to include Superman and Batmen, then there are two other stories that would work well: Tower of Babel – Batman’s records of the Justice League is hacked by Ra’s Al Ghul, giving him the knowledge on how to take down every member of the Justice League. It would be great to see the Red Kryptonite part of this story, as well as everyone’s realization that Batman doesn’t trust them. Crisis on Infinite Earths – Simply put, many different versions of heroes become one. There are only two people I would trust to make this movie: Christopher Nolan or Charlie Kaufman. With Monitors, Anti-Monitors, old, young, and younger Superman, etc., this would need to be a mind twisting adventure. In the grand scheme of things, it will likely be an unstoppable alien forcing them to team up. Maybe the White Martians who destroyed J’onn J’onzz’s civilization. It’s safe and easy, and sounds about right for what Warner Bros would do. 8 Comments
